Minister of Gender, Youth, Sports and Recreation Honourable Mahali Phamotse, officially launched the 2018 to 2030 National Youth Policy in Maseru yesterday.
Speaking at the event Honourable Phamotse said the ministry launches the policy, at a time when the International Youth Day designated by United Nations(UN) on the 12th August is commemorated.
She pointed out that the two events will be commemorated on the 10th August 2018 in Maseru, under the theme “Create Safe Spaces for Youth.”
”Ministry of Gender,Youth, Sports and Recreation is mandated among others, to develop and better the lives of young people in politics, economically as well as in life in general, and these include in sports and recreation for the body, spiritual and mental wellbeing of our youth.”She said.
“The ministry has since started reviewing the National Youth Policy of 2003, and the cabinet approved that process in December 2017.”She concluded.
She further said the main aim of the International Youth Day is to raise awareness about the National Youth Policy, and teach young people about the details of the policy.
Honourable Phamotse also explained that the second main aim of the International Youth Day is to give all stakeholders reflected in the policy, a chance to remind each other of their rights and responsibilities as individuals, organizations and government departments.
