NATIONWIDE CHILD IMMUNISATION SET FOR OCTOBER
Thursday, 02 October 2025 | 13:21

The Ministry of Health has announced a nationwide immunisation campaign targeting children aged six weeks to five years, scheduled to run from October 20 to 24. The campaign aims to reach 95 percent of eligible children across the country, offering protection against a wide range of life-threatening diseases. Vaccines to be administered include amongst others DTP-HepB-Hib which protects against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenzae type b.

Polio vaccine will form part of the vaccines to shield from poliomyelitis, a crippling viral disease. Pneumococcal vaccine, prevents infections such as pneumonia, meningitis, and sepsis caused by pneumococcal bacteria. Rotavirus vaccine to guard against severe diarrhoea and dehydration in infants and young children.

Parents and guardians are strongly encouraged to take their children to local clinics, hospitals, and designated outreach sites during the campaign period. Mobile health teams will also be deployed to reach remote communities and ensure equitable access. Routine immunisation is one of the most effective public health interventions, reducing child mortality and preventing outbreaks. The Ministry urges all caregivers to participate actively and ensure their children receive the full schedule of vaccines.
