POLICE CONSTABLE SENTENCED FOR KILLING
Police constable sentenced for killing
Friday, 03 November 2023 | 12:22

Police Constable Lillo Pitiri who is charged with the murder of Lipakuoele Lehlosi which occurred at Quthing in 2017, has on Thursday through his lawyer asked the court to find him not guilty of murder. This was during arguments before the High Court after both the prosecution and the defence closed their cases.

The accused's lawyer asked the court to not believe the prosecution witnesses. He argued that the evidence against his client was manufactured in order to secure a conviction and he indicated that investigations into the case were not properly done.

Meanwhile, legal representative for the prosecution argued that the accused was present at the scene. He added that he was in possession of the firearm further adding that he fired the gun shot which killed the deceased.

Evidence before court indicates that the accused was in possession of a work firearm which he mishandled while at a public bar and ended up shooting the deceased. The defence alleges that the gunshot which killed the deceased might have been fired by an unknown shooter.

Therefore, the high court, presided by Judge Tsheliso Mokoko found him guilty as charged and he will appear again today in court for his sentencing.
