Berea Grazing Associations says the rainfall has relieved farmers who were feeling the impact of drought. This, the Berea Grazing Association Chairperson Mr. Setene Chorela said during an interview with LENA on Monday. Mr. Chorela said having gone through the dry weather for a long time most rangelands were no longer in good shape to sustain their livestock.

He highlighted that looking at the fast pace they were losing rangelands due to drought, it was going to be difficult to survive three months under such conditions, but their hope has

been restored by the rains. Mr. Chorela said the worst part, water flow in some rivers was declining and thus creating a life-threatening situation for livestock.

However, he encouraged farmers to continue practicing rotational grazing as part of responsible use of natural resources and preventing land degradation. Also approached for a comment, one of the farmers Mr. Thabo Mosenki said lack of rangelands nearly cost them a lot of money for additional fodder, but rains have come to their rescue.

Mr. Mosenki said with rains falling, they are hopeful that the rangelands are going to recover in time so that they can fully execute their summer cropping activities. He added that most of their livestock are at the rural settlement rangelands cultivating fields and as a result their work was moving at a slow pace as their cattle  were weak to pull the plough. Meanwhile, according to the Berea Grazing.
