Maseru __ The Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL) took a step towards enhancing collaboration

with leaders at community level through a meeting with members of the Botha Bothe and

Maseru District Councils.

The meetings formed part of the broader RSL strategy to build and maintain relationships with local councils to enable information sharing and collaboration.

According to the Head Strategic Partnerships and Public Relations, Mr. Pheello Mphana, the meetings were aimed at introducing the RSL to members of the councils and to establish collaborative relations.

He mentioned that the meetings were also aimed at bridging the gap on information sharing between the RSL and local communities on RSL initiatives.

“We realized that updates on RSL initiatives and programmes reach people in towns and do not cascade down to the communities," he said.

Mr. Mphana explained that the initiative aims to assist the RSL to reach a wider audience with

updates on initiatives and services through the community councils across the country.

He also said the partnership with local councils will enhance implementation of tax education and Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programmes in the communities.

"The members of both district councils applauded the RSL for the initiative which they described as long overdue," indicated Mr. Mphana.

Moreover, he stressed that the discussions also saw the RSL and the district councils committing to hold further engagement sessions through a consolidative plan to ensure that the collaboration drills down to the local council’s level.

Mr. Mphana concluded by mentioning that plans are underway for the RSL to hold similar engagement sessions for all district councils across the country this financial year.

RSL is principally responsible for the assessment, collection and remittance to the government of public revenues in Lesotho.
