Resurgence of factory firms, investors express growing interest

The revival of Lesotho’s factory sector is gaining momentum as the Prime Minister embarks on tours of various factory firms. Public Relations Officer from the Office of the Prime Minister, Mr. Teboho Sekata, has expressed optimism that many factory firms will reopen soon, signalling a boost for the local economy.

Mr. Sekata noted that investors are increasingly showing interest in investing in Lesotho's industrial sector. This renewed interest is highlighted by the recent and upcoming openings of factory firms in Maseru and Maputsoe.

“We expect that by December, many Basotho will be back to work in the factories,” Mr. Sekata stated, adding that efforts are also underway to expand existing factories while plans to build new ones are progressing.

The reopening of a blanket factory in Maputsoe tomorrow (Tuesday) is expected to provide significant employment opportunities, positively impacting the livelihoods of many workers.

Mr. Sekata concluded by emphasising the government's commitment to reducing unemployment, especially among the youth. “This will take patience and collaboration, but we are confident that together we can create sustainable job opportunities,” he said.

The revival of the factory sector marks a pivotal step in addressing Lesotho’s unemployment crisis, with long-term benefits expected from continued investment and expansion in the industry.
