At least 36 houses are reported to have been blown away by wind in
the Mohale’s Hoek district following strong winds experienced in many
parts of the country on Monday night. Speaking in an interview with
the Agency on Tuesday, Disaster Management Authority (DMA) Public
Relations Officer Ms. Mahlape Koali stated that preliminary reports
indicated that about 14 houses in Mafeteng district had also been
affected. She stated that reports had also been received from Maseru
district, particularly in areas such as Roma, Morija and Machache.
Ms. Koali however explained that the Berea district reported 8 houses
and inspections are yet to be carried out in other parts of the country
to establish the extent of the damage caused by the strong winds.
Meanwhile, Ms. Koali mentioned that the DMA would continue
monitoring the situation and coordinating with relevant authorities to
assess the damage and provide the necessary assistance to affected
communities. She urged members of the public to remain vigilant and
follow safety advisories issued by the relevant authorities, particularly
as adverse weather conditions may persist.
