After being found guilty of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl, a 35-year-old man from Ketane, Karabo Molelekoa who is a teacher at Qobong Primary school has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment without an option of a fine. Evidence before court shows that around the end of May, 2022 at or near Mokuning, the convict lured the victim to his house, locked the door and asked the latter why she has been refusing to have an affair with him, when the victim finally accepted the proposal with the hope that Molelekoa would let her go.
It further states that Molelekoa ordered the victim to undress, and intentionally and unlawfully committed a sexual act upon the latter who slept at his place, and he sexually assaulted the victim again in the morning before releasing her to a friend;s house.
The victim is reported to have been approached by her friends to report the matter to the police, after discovering that she had spent the night at Molelekoa;s place, and she confided in them about the assault.When making his ruling, Chief Magistrate Manyathela Kolobe stated that teachers are important people in communities and the expectation is that they behave in a manner that suits their responsibility and status in society.
He concluded by stating that the sentence will be a lesson to teachers to refrain from such misconducts and curb the scourge of teachers having sexual relationships with their pupils. Molelekoa has been charged with contravening Section 8 (1) of Sexual Offences Act No 3 of 2003 and he appeared before Chief Magistrate Manyathela Kolobe and Molapo Letsie for Prosecution.
