Maseru, May. 06 __ The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Media Institute of Southern Africa Lesotho Chapter (MISA Lesotho) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation aimed at promoting media development in Lesotho.
This follows a meeting between UNDP Resident Representative, Dr. Jacqueline Olweya, and the newly appointed MISA Lesotho Chairperson, Khotsofalang Koloi, together with his executive team.
The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration to support a vibrant and independent media sector, regarded as a key pillar for democratic governance and sustainable development in the country.
Speaking during the engagement, Dr. Olweya reiterated UNDP’s commitment to working closely with media stakeholders to promote inclusive dialogue and transparency. She noted that a strong and independent media plays a critical role in encouraging citizen participation and advancing development outcomes.
Mr. Koloi, on behalf of MISA Lesotho, welcomed the continued partnership with UNDP, highlighting the organisation’s dedication to promoting media freedom and ethical journalism. He expressed confidence that strengthened cooperation would contribute to the growth and resilience of the media sector in Lesotho.
Both parties acknowledged the important role of the media in informing the public, empowering citizens and ensuring accountability.
They further explored opportunities for joint initiatives aimed at building media capacity, enhancing professionalism and creating an enabling environment for journalists to operate freely and responsibly.
The meeting marks a renewed commitment by both organisations to work together in advancing accountability, good governance and sustainable development in Lesotho.
