A Member of Parliament for Hloahloeng Constituency Number 64 stood with an urgent motion pertaining to supply of seeds and fertilisers in the National Assembly on Thursday.
This was done in line with the House Standing Order Number 29 (1). Speaking on the motion, Mr. Katleho Mabeleng said it is a worrying factor that there appears to be seeds and fertilisers shortage countrywide.
He explained that it is unacceptable that the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition has not availed sufficient supply of fertilisers during this crucial time of summer cropping.
He implied that it is surprising that some people seem to be in possession of the said fertilisers yet those initially targeted like farmers have no seeds.
Echoing similar sentiments, a Member of Parliament for Makhaleng Constituency Number 50, Mr. Mootsi Lehata stated agriculture is a seasonal matter not an emergency, thus he fails to understand why the Ministry of Agriculture opted for selective tendering in this matter unless this is a scam and corruption.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Thabo Mofosi stood with a Point of Order indicating it is unfair that the owner of the motion and the other seconding him are mentioning names of people whom they suspect own or are benefiting from the initiative as such is defamation of character.
