Access to quality education in Pepeneneng Primary School is compromised. This is according to the school;s Acting Principal, Mrs. Mathato Lepheane. Speaking to the Agency on Thursday, she revealed that the classroom, an old round hut constructed from stones bound together by easily friable loam soil, houses grade one to two pupils while an office build by parents houses classes from grade three up to seven. The principal said the lack of classrooms has severely affected her pupils’ progress.  She said teaching in Pepeneneng is far from ideal, with teachers taking turns to teach the different classes.

Lepheane said children are seriously confused by the teaching arrangement and slow learners are not given the attention they deserve.Saying pupils easily lose focus, noting the challenges of preparing for classes whose content is vastly different. The new teacher said It is tough to teach five groups in one building. Pupils remain in the class even when it is time to teach other grades. Out of boredom and unable to make sense of what is being taught.

The situation is unbearable.  Mrs. Mosola said due to absence of classrooms, they loose students to other schools.  A parent to grade six and one pupils, Mrs Mathellanyane Molebatsi who is also a board member expressed concern saying it would make a huge difference if the government chipped in to build classrooms as during times of extreme weather conditions, some children are unable to attend school because the environment is not conducive.
