Maseru — The Sebabatso initiative, in collaboration with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Lesotho is once again opening opportunities for Basotho youth to acquire international skills and exposure through sector-specific seminars in China.

Speaking in an interview, with the Agency on Thursday, the Press Attaché Prime Minister's Office Mr. Thapelo Mabote said that the initiative demonstrates the continued commitment of the Chinese Government to supporting youth development and strengthening cooperation between Lesotho and China.

He indicated that 12 outstanding young leaders are expected to travel to different provinces in China this year to participate in specialised seminars aimed at enhancing their knowledge and skills in areas relevant to entrepreneurship and business development.

He added that the programme will expose participants to practical experiences in entrepreneurship, global enterprise operations and business data management among other areas.

According to Mr. Mabote such opportunities are important in equipping young Basotho with skills that can help them compete in an increasingly globalised economy.

Furthermore, Mr. Mabote delineated that the partnership also provides an opportunity for participants to build international networks, learn from China’s development experience and bring the knowledge gained back home for the benefit of their communities.

He stated that the continued cooperation between Lesotho and China goes beyond infrastructure and economic development, extending to human capital development and youth empowerment.

He encouraged young Basotho between the ages of 18 and 35 to take advantage of opportunities created through programmes such as Sebabatso, saying exposure to international training can help broaden their perspectives and inspire innovative approaches to addressing challenges facing Lesotho.

The initiative is expected to contribute to the development of a generation of young leaders with enhanced entrepreneurial, technological and business skills, while further strengthening the people-to-people relations between Lesotho and China.
