Media practitioners highly appreciate the recent capacity-building workshop organized by the Competitiveness and Financial Inclusion (CAFI) project in partnership with the Central Bank of Lesotho.

The two-day training which brought together media practitioners from different local media houses was aimed at enhancing Journalists' understanding of investment opportunities, financial inclusion and economic development in Lesotho. It was also intended to strengthen reporting on issues that influence the country's economy and business environment.

Participants noted that the session was a true eye-opener. Previously, many Reporters were reluctant to cover economic issues, assuming the subject was too complex.

However, armed with new knowledge and skills, Journalists through their representative, Mr. Thabiso Kolotsane have pledged not to disappoint.

Moving forward, they promise to accurately disseminate economic and financial news to their different audiences.

On the other hand, Mr. Moroke Moroke, a representative from the Central Bank of Lesotho, has actively encouraged Journalists to elevate their reporting on economic matters.

Recognizing the media's role as the mouthpiece of the nation, he highlighted the necessity of deeply understanding the sector to disseminate accurate, high-quality information.

His core recommendations for Journalists included: enhancing economic literacy where he said Journalists should develop a strong understanding of economic and financial sectors to prevent the spread of misinformation to the public.

Mr. Moroke encouraged them to prioritize feature stories saying they should shift focus towards in-depth feature stories rather than just breaking news.

He said this format provides the essential time and space required to thoroughly research subjects of interest.

He emphasised that by focusing on these areas, Journalists can effectively break down complex financial data and help citizens make informed decisions that impact their daily lives.

Moreover, CAFI Public Relations Manager Ms. Lihaelo Nkaota expressed gratitude to the participants for attending the economic reporting training.

She noted that the responsibility now lies with Journalists to ensure that they disseminate economic news timely and accurately to the public for sustainable economic development.

She expressed appreciation to CBL and media for the partnership saying she hoped it was the beginning of greater and fruitful work.

This training was part of a broader capacity-building initiative spearheaded by CAFI Lesotho in partnership with the Central Bank of Lesotho to enhance the media's ability to cover business and investment opportunities across the country.
