Maseru __ The impact of the combination of high temperatures and below normal rainfall on agriculture, water, and other sectors will be explored during the National Climate Outlook Forum to be held soon.

This was said by the Minister of Environment and Forestry Mr. Letsema Adonts'i when reviewing rainfall and temperature experienced in the country between October 2024to March 2025.

Mr. Adontsí indicated that during the start of rains for the 2024/2025, rainfall season occurred in the second week of October 2024 and the October to December 2024 season received below normal rainfall while the January to March 2025 season received above normal rainfall, more especially the southern parts of the country.

He added that the north western regions received below normal rainfall, saying above normal temperatures were observed for December-January-February (DJF) season 2024/25.

He further indicated that the temperature outlook for the entire 2025/2026 rainfall season is expected to be mostly above long-term averages.

Mr. Adontsí also said the bulk of Lesotho is likely to receive normal to above normal rainfall for the season, October to December 2025, saying it will cover the rolling seasons from November-December-January 2025/26, December-January-February to January-February-March 2026, above-normal rainfall conditions are expected to dominate.

He therefore urged the nation to note that during the summer season, flash floods, thunderstorms, hailstorms, heat waves, and strong winds are frequent and may result in the loss of lives while also posing possible damage to property and crops.

Meanwhile a report from Lesotho Meteorological Services indicates that mostly cloudy and mild to warm but cool at some places in the highlands with a likelihood of 60 percent scattered to widespread rain and thundershowers are expected in the country on Saturday.
