The Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) through Child and Gender Protection Unit (CGPU) has shown great concern of the high rates of sexual assault that seem to be occurring across the country lately.Speaking in an interview with the Agency on Tuesday, Senior Inspector Mojabeng Lets;ela Mokotjomela from the CGPU office said that these sexual assault cases are perpetrated by close relatives to the victims which include biological fathers.
She stated that in recent cases, most victims of sexual assault habour the abuse as they get lifethreats and promises of finer things from their abusers.Senior Inspector Mokotjomela however urged victims to report issues related to any form of assault as even after the perpetrators who mostly are their caregivers get arrested, they will still get proper care from all the responsible government departments.
Meanwhile, Senior Inspector Mokotjomela pleaded to parents to take note of some of the signs of a sexualy abused child which she said includes isolation, poor academic performance, decline in mood and or indulgence in drugs or alcohol. In a recent report from the LMPS, a 60 year old man was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment following his arrest after sexually assaulting his 3 grandchildren.
