GOVERNMENT CONDEMNS DCEO AUDIO CLIPS
Government condemns DCEO audio clips
10 January 2025 | 14:43

The Minister of Law and Justice Mr. Richard Ramoeletsi has condemned audio clips making rounds on social media which sound as if they are made by some employees of the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO).

Mr. Ramoeletsi said these employees are entrusted to execute public services, appealing to them to refrain from their hypocritical actions that are intended to destabilise and erode the trust that people have on the DCEO.

He added that those statements tarnish the image of the government, Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, as well as Ministers thus warning them to refrain from those acts immediately.

Earlier last week, audio clips which contained a conversation believed to be between Basotho National Party (BNP) Leader, Mr. Machesetsa Mofomobe and Director DCEO Mr. Knorx Molelle leaked and took rounds on social media.

In the audio clips, a voice thought to be that of Molelle spoke of, among other things, how the government is operating with too many centres of power.

The voice further says ''There is a bigger evil that we must decide, there is a bigger picture that we need to address. The rubbish they are writing there accusing other people of corruption while they left cases where they are involved. I realised that Ramoeletsi was pleased with that, to a point where he said he needed to come to address the staff, and I said I will invite him''

Then the other voice advised him to wait a bit.

The voice which is believed to be that of Mofomobe is heard saying it does not make sense that one is given a mandate to prosecute but when he does, then he is accused of associating with certain people.

The voice also raised the issue of the opening of the Senate where it is expected that the House will work on the Bill and clip him, and this is to happen between the 25th and 26th, so that person will never call Molelle, who in response said he does not need him anymore.

The duo continued to say those who are close to the leverage of money are the Ministers and the Principal Secretaries (PSs).
