In celebration of Moshoeshoe’s Day, observed annually on March 12, the Ramela Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture, will host the Moshoeshoe’s Day Horse Race on April 18 at the Peka Race Course in Leribe.
This was revealed by the Senior Sports Officer for Leribe, Ms. Motsejoa Ntsane, in an interview with the Agency on Wednesday. Ms. Ntsane explained that the purpose of the event is to support horse riders and owners in Lesotho by fostering a greater passion for the sport while providing financial assistance. She added that the event has been funded to the tune of M600,000.00, which will be distributed among the winners accordingly.
Ms. Ntsane noted that horse riders from both Lesotho and the Republic of South Africa will compete in flat and triple races. She further stated that the event, which was first held last year, is now an annual fixture.
Tickets for this year’s race are priced at M200.00 for general access, M1,500.00 for VIP, and M2,500.00 for VVIP. Regarding preparations, Ms. Ntsane mentioned the need for a water tank, a grader to level the race course, and the provision of health and security services to ensure the event's success. The race will also feature entertainment from various artists.
