Addis Ababa, June 15 — The Lesotho Permanent Mission in Addis Ababa is intensifying efforts to position the Kingdom of Lesotho as a premier African tourism destination through strategic partnerships aimed at boosting tourism, cultural exchange and investment opportunities.

This follows a meeting between the Mission and Mr. Yonaiel Belete of Boston Partners, one of Ethiopia's leading tourism enterprises, where discussions focused on potential areas of cooperation between Lesotho and Ethiopia in the tourism sector.

The engagement forms part of the Mission's broader initiative to introduce more Africans to Lesotho's unique attractions, including its breathtaking mountain landscapes, rich cultural heritage, adventure tourism offerings and growing investment opportunities.

During the discussions, the two parties explored practical ways of increasing tourism exchanges between the two countries and enhancing Lesotho's visibility within the African tourism market. The talks also examined opportunities for collaboration that could encourage Ethiopian tourists and investors to consider Lesotho as a destination for travel, business and cultural experiences.

The Lesotho Permanent Mission noted that strengthening tourism ties with African partners remains crucial in promoting intra-African travel and fostering stronger people-to-people relations across the continent.

The meeting comes at a significant time as Lesotho prepares to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Independence in October 2026. As part of the preparations, the Mission is actively seeking partnerships that can contribute to the success of the celebrations while showcasing the country's tourism potential and investment prospects to a wider audience.

Tourism continues to be identified as one of the sectors with strong potential to contribute to economic growth, job creation and cultural preservation in Lesotho. The country's dramatic highland scenery, often earning it the title of the "Kingdom in the Sky," presents unique opportunities for adventure tourism, eco-tourism and cultural tourism.
