Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftainship Affairs, and the Ministry of Social Development held a meeting, with wives of principal chiefs in Maseru yesterday, to discuss issues relating to communities in the country.
During the meeting Her Majesty said Lesotho is faced with the increasing number of orphans, elderly people and people living with disability, and called on the wives of principal chiefs to assist those in need, as it is their responsibility as leaders to take care of vulnerable people.
She called on the wives of principal chiefs to give out parental care, mental counseling, good education and proper nutrition to vulnerable people.During the meeting the Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship Honourable Kotiti Liholo, said it is their responsibility as the ministry to support the chiefs in their duties.
He said he saw it fit to invite wives of the principal chiefs to that meeting, so that they can find solutions to their problems together.
The Minister of Social Development Honourable ‘Matebatso Doti, revealed that her ministry is in the process of developing a new programme, that will fight against early child marriages and said it will be led by Princess Senate.
