Twenty-five years old man from Bobatsi in the Butha-Buthe district was arrested by the police on the 6th October 2019 for allegedly possessing illegal firearm.

The man was found with a 9mm Z88 illegal firearm, and also with its twenty-five bullets.

The Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) Spokesperson Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli said Lesotho is faced with a challenge of many illegal firearms in the hands of criminals, and he appealed to people who possess illegal firearms to return them to the police.

He said people who return illegal firearms that have not been involved in criminal cases are not arrested.

He also advised people to stop buying guns from unauthorized people, as it is illegal and they will be prosecuted.
