The Socialist Revolutionaries (SR) released a statement on issues relating to the First Lady Dr. ‘Maesaiah Thabane’s alleged involvement in the murder of Prime Minister Dr. Motsoahae Thomas Thabane’s former second wife Lipolelo Thabane in Maseru on Tuesday 14th January 2020.

The statement also focused on the question of whether the Prime Minister is also a suspect or not, as per the police findings, his phone was used during the assassination of Lipolelo Thabane.

The SR leader Mr. Teboho Mojapela said as a nation, they are of the view that they are facing the political and socio-economic crisis within the government.

He said the current government is in crisis of perpetuity, as it is well known that two days prior to the inauguration of the Prime Minister, his estranged wife was brutally murdered.

In his statement Mojapela pointed out that what is concerning is that ever since Mrs. Lipolelo’s demise, no noise has been made by the ruling party, like they used to with the likes of Mokalekale Khetheng and Lieutenant General Maaparankoe Mahao and many others prior to the 2017national elections.

He said it therefore doesn’t come as a surprise, that when the Prime Minister and the First Lady were required to corporate in connection with Lipolelo’s killing, the Commissioner of Police is taken by a surprise and unlawfully removed from office.

Mojapela said now that the investigations of Lipolelo’s assassination are being conducted, they do not expect any delays or turning back, and that all they ask for is the perpetrators to be brought to book, as soon as it is practically possible, without fear of favor.

He said as the Socialist Revolutionaries they make a plea to the Prime Minister, to ensure that he avails himself together with his wife to the police in helping them with the investigations.

He further urged the Prime Minister and the entire government to step down within seven days, starting from Tuesday the 14th January 2020.

The SR proposes that if the Prime Minister resigns as a prerequisite, a transitional or alternatively Government of National Unity (GNU), that will take the country to 2022 general elections be formed.

The party also warned the Prime Minister and the government, that if no compliance with their demands, they shall have no option but to call a mass action against the Prime Minister and the government.
