The Commissioner of Police Mr Holomo Molibeli has released the Internal Security Curfew Order Notice, 2023 pursuant to sections 37A and 37B of the Internal Security (General) Act, 1984. The Legal Notice No.53 of the 2023 says the curfew is imposed on all persons throughout the Kingdom of Lesotho with effect from Tuesday May 16 th  this year from 10:00 in the evening to 04:00 in the morning, except where a person is granted a permit by the Commissioner in terms of sections 37C and 37D of the Act to perform essential or permitted services or is attending to a security or medicinal emergency.

A person to whom a permit is granted who fail to produce it when so lawfully required to do so, commits an offence and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months or to a fine not exceeding Five Hundred Maloti or both such imprisonment and fine in accordance with section 37D (4) of the Act,’ the Legal Notice shows. Furthermore, it says a person who failed to comply with item one commits an offence, and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years or to a fine not exceeding Ten Thousand Maloti or both such imprisonment and fine in accordance with section 37E of the Act.

In conclusion, the Legal Notice notes that this order shall remain in force until revoked. The curfew has been effected following the high number of killings in the country but recently a popular Tsénolo FM Presenter Ralikonelo ‘Leqhashasha’ Joki was assassinated at the gate of his workplace on Sunday night. The post mortem reports say he was shot with seven bullets which riddled his body with one found in his head two on either side of the body that are believed to have taken his life. Joki (44) is survived by his expecting wife and three children and the funeral arrangements are underway.
