A few weeks since Lesotho was announced as the chairman of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), the latter’s delegation, which was led by Mr. Neal Rijkenberg paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister honourable Ntsokoane Matekane in Maseru on Thursday.

SACU Chairman Mr. Rijkenberg said they came into the country for a formal handover of SACU Chairmanship, brief the country where SACU is and discuss different issues within SACU so that Lesotho could be empowered on SACU Laws.

He added that the intention is to discuss how SACU could be impactful through its strategic plan and how countries could work together to support each other.

Furthermore, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning Dr. Rets’elisitsoe Matlanyane said now that Lesotho Chairs SACU, its meetings will be held in the country, and that will help Lesotho’s economy to rise. She also said they will ensure that lives of people in the region change in terms of job creation and developments.

SACU members include Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland.
