Head of the Juvenile Training Centre Superintendent Mohlanka Lehloenya, on Saturday explained that the Juvenile Training Centre is identified to have challenges that are beyond their control as the management team.

He further indicated that the centre is faced with numerous challenges which also include food as the detainees eat maize meal and legumes for a period of 6 months as they have no other alternative.

Moreover the other challenges that the centre is faced with is the dilapidated infrastructure which has been used since the establishment of centre in the early 1970 showing that such challenges disputes the rehabilitation of the detainees.

Superintendent Lehloenya also mentioned that most of the detainees at the centre are of the sexual offences charges that are mostly originated by substance abuse and many of them have been detained due to cases of common theft which were triggered by poverty and lack of schooling opportunities that the detainees experience in their respective communities.

He added that the centre however experiences a low turn up of returning detainees as most of them get fully rehabilitated.
