Health Workers Representative, Mr. Tanki Ranthimo, says health workers from Qacha’s Nek, Mokhotlong and Thaba-Tseka will down tools from August 19,2023.

The indefinite strike follows the demand for a mountain allowance increase from M275 to M500. Moreover, Mr Ranthimo said they will down tools but they will attend emergencies only, adding that this follows a series of events as in July 2022, they wrote to the Ministry of Health requesting mountain allowance increment.

However, he said the letter was never responded to and upon their realisation, they wrote three more letters as a reminder, but the Ministry was still silent about it hence we resorted to a go-slow through the fifth letter.

On the other hand, Ministry of Health Public Relations Officer, Mrs. ’Mateboho Mosebekoa said the ministry is attending to the matter. She also revealed that last week, the Ministry reached an agreement with their association.
