The kingdom of Lesotho is currently experiencing the double burden of diseases namely TB and HIV. While the burden of infectious disease remains high, non-communicable diseases are increasing in prevalence, which is putting a significant strain on the already weak health system.Tuberculosis, which in Lesotho is primarily driven by the HIV epidemic remains a major public health concern.

This day, 07/12/2016 the Regional Tuberculosis Health Support Project was launched in Mapotu, Mozambique by the his excellency Minister of Foreign affairs Mozambique, Hon Oldimino Baloi, on behalf of the President of Mozambique . The participants in the project are four countries with high burden of TB namely Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia.

The overall objectives of the Project are to: improve coverage and quality of TB control and occupational lung disease services in targeted geographic area of the participating countries; and strengthen regional capacity to manage the burden of TB and occupational diseases.

The beneficiaries of the project will be TB-affected individuals and households. The project will target mining communities, high TB burden regions, high HIV and AIDS burden regions, transport corridors, and cross-border areas of the four.
