BALLOT PAPER DISTRIBUTION CONTINUES
27 September 2023 | 09:55

Following the delay caused by weather conditions on Monday, distribution of ballot papers to the hard-to-reach areas continued on Tuesday morning as the weather permitted. This was confirmed in an interview with the District Electoral Officer Mrs. ‘Makatleho Monesa in an interview with the Agency on Tuesday.According to Mrs. Monesa, the first batch of distribution began in Mants’onyane, followed by Methalaneng, Linakeng, Mashai, Sani, and Manamaneng, and it is expected that today all the hard-to-reach areas will be reached.

Due to the turbulent weather, Mrs. Monesa said the distribution of ballot papers to the hard- to-reach areas was delayed as they had anticipated it by Monday and focused on the other areas reachable with a vehicle starting from September 26. But, she said that has not affected the on-road schedule, adding that the distribution to accessible voting centers is expected to end on September 28. Thaba Tseka has 216 voting centers, in all five community councils and Urban. There are 44 voting centers in Tenesolo, 42 Khutlo-se-metsi, 22 Litsoetse, Bokong 45, Linakeng 42. and Urban Council 20.

Meanwhile, the District Commanding Officer Superintendent Karabo Mopeli has also indicated that they have already deployed Police Officers in all the hard-to-reach areas starting from Sunday. He said the deployment is continuing though he mentioned that it was interrupted by rain on Monday. But besides that, he said all are on the right track and mentioned that transport is also a challenge as they are only using two vehicles, and then some trips to places as far as Lesobeng take the whole day and therefore delay their deployment.

The ballot paper was collected on September 23 in the Maseru warehouse in the district. The Local Government elections are scheduled for September 29, 2023.
