Bad weather conditions cut electricity
17 October 2023 | 09:03

Lesotho Electricity Company Acting Public Relations Manager Mr. Ts’epang Ledia says whenever weather conditions are bad, electricity will be cut, and this is not done intentionally by the Lesotho Electricity Company.

This he said following reports that the country will be affected by El Nino as well as hail, thunderstorms and floods amongst others. He also said electricity is meant to be cut whenever there is something wrong with power lines, saying members of the public should understand that even when weather conditions are bad, electricity will cut.

He therefore urged LEC customers to call its numbers when electricity has cut, assuring them that they will be assisted. In another issue, he said some areas still do not have electricity due to strong winds and thunderstorms which occurred last Thursday, saying the company is still assisting customers who were affected.

On the other hand, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Mr. Limpho Tau warned Basotho that the country will be affected by El Nino starting this month.

He indicated that as is always the case in summer, bad weather conditions are expected this summer including thunderstorms, strong winds, hail and floods, saying they will exacerbate due to climate change.

However, he said that his Ministry and Department of Meteorology will continue to update members of the public about weather conditions that may put their welfare at risk.
