As part of the continuing efforts to eradicate poverty and provide a decent living for the rural communities, Matlake Bee Keepers Association has diversified their economic empowerment options by venturing into vaseline production projects.This was disclosed by Matlake Bee Keepers Association Chairperson Mr. Hlajoane Tjatji during an interview with LENA on Tuesday.

Mr. Tjatji said it has come to their attention that lack of job opportunities is a major challenge faced by the country and as a result, they saw a need for a broad range of options on how  they can improve their livelihoods.He said although bee keeping can be one of the lucrative projects, they developed a strategy of keeping the money flowing and saw an economic opportunity on vaseline production.

Mr. Tjatji pointed out that  the project is  cost effective as  they use available resources for production of vaseline. He said the idea to venture into Vaseline production was ignited after participating in one of an intensive training which  focused on financial management, records keeping, product marketing and product branding.Mr. Tjatji said despite a call to invite participation of all groups of society, it has come to their attention that some youths are not that passionate about improving their lives, but they  aim for quick cash in profits, hence many of their projects are not sustainable.Matlake Bee Keepers is found at Motanasela Council and it has a membership of 14 people and which comprise of both women and men.
