CHIEFTAINESS URGES GOVERNMENT TO INVEST MORE IN YOUTH SPORTING ACTIVITIES
Chieftainess urges government to invest more in youth sporting activities
18 December 2023 | 18:34

Urban Chieftainess of Mohale’s Hoek 'Mats'enolo Bereng has pleaded with the Government to invest more in youth sporting activities for a brighter future, at an event held at the Race Course on Saturday.

The event was organised by some of the district's residents with the purpose of encouraging youth to refrain from criminal activities like substance abuse and teenage pregnancies amongst others.

She noted that if events of this nature are held regularly, youth will have constructive things to keep themselves busy with, and not enough time to plan any activities which might put them on the wrong side of the law.

On the other hand, Nursing Manager from Nts'ekhe Government Hospital Ms. Relebohile Mashee highlighted that the district is rated No:1 in teenage pregnancy and sexual offences, noting that in November only, more than 100 underage girls gave birth, hence the dire need to educate the youth.

Furthermore, Majantja FC Vice President Mr. Phomolo 'Mantutle applauded winners of the race, noting that they should put more effort into sporting activities as currently sport has become a way to earn a living.
