The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO) Mr. Thelejane Thelejane has opted for a three-month short leave following allegations of sexual assault by a staff member.

The accusations, centered on claims of sexual harassment against WASCO staff member Mrs. Lineo Moqasa, were confirmed by Mr. Thabo Monyamane, Chairperson of the Board of Directors, during a press conference held in Maseru on Friday.

Mr. Monyamane revealed that in light of the ongoing investigation, the Board has appointed Mr. Falla Seboko as the Cater-taker CEO, effective immediately.

This decision comes as part of the Board's commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in addressing the allegations.

Acknowledging Mr. Thelejane's decision to step aside, Mr. Monyamane stressed the Board's dedication to uncovering the truth of the matter, stating, "The Board accepted Mr. Thelejane's letter to step aside to allow investigation to go on with all transparency required, and get to the bottom of the matter."

Furthermore, Mr. Monyamane assured that an impartial individual would oversee the case, with the expectation of gathering all necessary information within the stipulated three-month period.

Highlighting WASCO's core mandate to serve the public's best interests, Mr. Monyamane repeated the company's commitment to its primary stakeholders, stating, "WASCO's mandate is to serve in the best interest of the public, being the main shareholders of the services provided to them."

The Cater-taker CEO, Mr. Falla Seboko, is expected to resume duties immediately as the investigation unfolds.
