Department of Traffic and Transport has since addressed the issue of foreign nationals who were alleged to sell both vehicles and drivers licenses commonly known as Combo.

This was said by the Department Operations Manager Mr Maama Letsie at the press conference held at Ha Foso on Thursday with the objective to present before the media its plan to change the method of issuing drivers’ licenses in a bid to combat escalating road accidents.

Mr. Maama said the department met with suspects, the Police, Ministry of Trade and other stakeholders and warned that those who would be found practicing these acts will not get any service from the department and that their traders licenses will be revoked.

He further indicated that ever since that meeting, they have not received any report related to this matter, pointing out that this new plan, which will require people who need drivers licenses to go through driving schools will also combat such acts.

In another issue, he refuted allegations that officers from the department shut down the system when processing documents for people who paid bribery, saying there are Interpol, Police and CIDs at the premises who are always alert to address such issues. He therefore urged the public to report people who engage in these acts so that they could be brought to book.

Meanwhile the department disclosed at the press conference that people will no longer go to the department individually for issuance of driver’s licenses but will go through driving schools once the plan is enacted.
