Quthing, March 25 - - As part of crime prevention strategies during Eastern holidays, members of Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) will be visible in different commercial areas and different villages of Quthing until Wednesday next week.

In an interview the Quthing District Deputy Police Commander Senior Inspector Moeketsi Mokotjo said the patrols that started from Monday this week are led by Senior Officers of LMPS Quthing and they also lead road blocks on different routes in the district.

He pointed out that Police Satellites have not been opened this Easter holiday but police patrols will be strengthened in areas that have been known with high crime rate such as Alwayn’Skop and Tsatsane including Tele border posts route for prevention of crime at the border post.

Senior Inspector Mokotjo said crime prevention committees from different villages are ready to prevent crime at the villages, adding that they are working hand in hand with chiefs, community councillors and the police from police stations near their respective villages.

He appealed to the Quthing community and those that have come home to celebrate Easter holidays with members of their families to enjoy the holidays responsibly and avoid going to the public bars until late since it is when people drink and end up with quarrels and fights that lead to killings.

He further called on public bar owners to close the bars at scheduled time, public transport drivers to avoid overloads and drivers to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol to avoid road accidents during the holidays.

Quthing has four police stations, namely Mphaki, Mt. Moorosi, Tele and Dilli-Dilli. None of murder cases were reported during Last year's Easter holidays.
