A 25 years old taxi driver of Thaba-Tseka by the name Mohapi Mohapi, appeared before the magistrate court in Thaba-Tseka yesterday, charged with culpable homicide and wreckless driving.

Reports indicate that on the 22nd March 2018, the man caused calamity by negligently driving his taxi in a high flowing river near Linakaneng in Thaba-Tseka, drowning sixteen passengers and killing eight of them.

He was allowed to apply for bail and the prosecutor pleaded with the magistrate, to hand him one as he is reported to be cooperative with the police.

He was given bail on conditions that he pays M600, he does not interfere with the police investigations, he stays away from the deceased relatives, and pay M1000 as surety.

He is expected to appear before the court on the 12th April this year.
