The Lesotho Mounted Police Service(LMPS) Spokesperson Supretendent Mpiti Mopeli, yesterday reminded Basotho that African countries are still continuing to commemorate September as a month of forgiveness, in which people who possess illegal firearms are allowed to hand them over to the police without being prosecuted and arrested.

He said African countries through African Union(AU), decided that by the year 2020 they must have silenced the guns in Africa, under theme; “Silencing the guns in Africa”.

He further said to achieve this plan, AU officially announced that every year until 2020, September will be marked as a month of forgiveness, in which people who possess illegal firearms will hand them over to the police and not be arrested.

He indicated that Lesotho is part of Africa and AU, and as the Lesotho Mounted Police Service they call on all Basotho, who are in possession of illegal firearms to bring them to the nearby police station.
